Michael Dukakis was the losing Democratic nominee from the 1988 Presidential race,
losing to the senior President Bush in a historic landslide loss. He was also a long standing
member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1962 to 1970, and was
elected state's governor in 1974. He served in this capacity on and off until the early
1990s. Mr Dukakis continues to have a public life, teaching at UCLA and is a proponent
of environmental causes such as mass transit.
